NGC was formed in 1981. The organization is headed by a National President and Board of Directors which are elected for two year terms at the Annual NGC Convention.
Day to day activities are administered by an executive committee who liaise with Garinagu at home and abroad as well as with various Government and non-Government organizations.
The activities of the council are mainly based on voluntary efforts of its board, members and others (currently NGC has two Peace Corps volunteers assigned to help manage and organize activities). Members of the organization tend to unite around task-oriented activities, and in the past, the emphasis has been largely on cultural activities. Currently, the NGC is undergoing a revitalization process, including institutional strengthening and development of a long term strategic plan, aimed at consolidating our position as a programmatic organization.
